Last week a delegation from Saba and St. Eustatius visited the Kingdom Tournament in Bonaire. The group consisted of Public Entity Saba, Sports United Federation Saba, Public Entity St. Eustatius, St. Eustatius Sports Facility Foundation and, A+ academic & Professional Training Centre.

The Kingdom Tournament is a specially developed youth program ‘Alleen Jij Bepaalt Wie Je Bent,’ also known as ‘You Are Your Own Icon’ as currently run on Sint Maarten. It focuses on the personal development of youths between the age of 12-15 years through team sports.

During the week, teams from Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Sint Maarten and, the Netherlands played basketball, baseball and, soccer at different sports facilities on Bonaire. In addition to the tournaments, social and cultural activities also took place. It was a wonderful week bringing the youth together from all over the Dutch Kingdom.

The main goal for the delegations was to gain a better understanding of this youth program and bring it to both Islands, and with the knowledge obtained, we can now do so. Youth and Sports are essential focus areas for us, both public entities explained. This program is only a part of an overall plan to boost our efforts as also identified in the recently signed Sports- and Prevention agreement.
