On July 11th -14th, fifteen civil servants of the Public Entity Saba participated in a four day workshop for Soft Skills Training. These skills include customer service, problem solving etc. On the last day of the workshop, the civil servants engaged in a team building exercise, and were separated into three teams and worked together to build dog houses. These dog houses were later donated to the SFPCA, Saba Foundation for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. This activity helped to solidify the skills the civil servants had learned in the pervious days and at the end of the training they all received certificates for completing the course.
This workshop is part of the 5 year educational plan for the Island Government of Saba, and focused on areas such as Communication, Customer Service (Internal and External), Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution, to name a few. The trainer for this workshop was David McGregor, from the Training and Development Center in St. Maarten, who had previously given workshops for customer service and leadership on the island. There will be four more of these workshops organized in the upcoming months and every civil servant will have the opportunity to participate.
Acting Island Secretary Raquel Granger views the workshop as a success and said, “Two years ago David had a profound impact on the civil servants who followed his workshop. Based on the results and accomplishments of last week, it is clear that David continues to bring out the best in his students”.
The Island Government of Saba will continue with its education plan by also organizing other general learning courses such as Dutch and Computer courses later in the year.
