Last week, the Commissioner of Tourism Bruce Zagers visited St. Barths with a delegation of four persons on a mission to facilitate building a stronger touristic relationship between Saba and St. Barths. During the visit the delegation met with some key stakeholders of the tourism industry in St. Barths. These stakeholders included President Bruno Magras, President of the Tourism Committee Nils Dufau, Port Director Ernest Brin, Owner of St. Barth Services Brice Cagan, President of Elan Voyages Philippe Rossoni, Manager of Easyway Franck Roche and representatives of three dive companies.
The planning of this visit occurred as part of the Tourism Action Plan 2016-2018, which was created with the intention of boosting the tourism product on Saba. Commissioner Zagers was happy to announce during the visit that in January 2017, a direct flight between St. Barths and Saba will be installed. This news was positively received by all St. Barths stakeholders, who are also enthusiastic about creating a stronger connection between the islands. During the upcoming weeks, a promotional campaign will commence in order to build awareness of the flight with the goal of making it a successful addition to the Winair roster.
Other topics discussed during the visit were exploring the eco-connection that the two islands have, facilitating more open communication and building upon commonalities within the each island’s tourism target market. Commissioner Zagers felt positive about the visit to St. Barths and the feedback that was received. He stated, “I am happy to see that steps are already being taken towards meeting the various goals of the Tourism Action Plan. Building a stronger relationship with the islands in the region is only a beginning. As tourism is one of our most important economic drivers, we must continue to invest into it. With a successful tourism product, Saba can become a more self-sustainable entity. I look forward to seeing the relationships between the islands progress towards a more sustainable connection.”
