Garbage Collection Schedule

Garbage collection is conducted during the night hours, as there is less traffic congestion at this time, the working conditions are better because it is cooler and the garbage can be retrieved in time have it to the plant at 6am when it opens. Previously the pick-up was during the hours of 12am and 6am. Because we have taken note that this arrangement is unsatisfactory to some, it has been decided to try a different schedule. Starting this week, garbage collection will be between the hours of 8pm and 12am. This schedule will continue for the month of August, where we will monitor residents’ remarks and feedback and the service rendered will be evaluated.

Here is the garbage collection schedule:

Monday: 8pm – 12am
– NON-RECYCLABLES:
All of Hell’s Gate, main areas of other villages.
– RECYLABLES:
Hot Spots
Tuesday: 8pm – 12am
– NON RECYCLABLES:
Outer-lying areas of villages such as The Level, The Range etc.

Wednesday: 8pm – 12am
– RECYCLABLES:
All of Hell’s Gate, main areas of other villages.

Thursday: 8pm – 12am
– RECYCLABLES:
Outer-lying areas of villages such as The Level, The Range etc.

Friday: 8pm – 12am
– NON-RECYCLABLES:
Hot Spots

Hot Spots are areas where garbage builds up quickly, such as Cove Bay, Fort Bay, Schools and Business areas.

NOTE: If you have any oil that needs to be picked, this would be done on Thursdays. We are asking that you place oil near to the garbage containers.

There have also been questions referring to why the yellow truck picks up recyclables. This is done because the white truck cannot drive to the area where your house is situated because of factors like narrow roads. The yellow truck however, is not supposed to pick up the orange and grey bins together. If citizens see occasions where a mixed pick up is occurring, or if garbage has not been picked up, we encourage you to notify the Sanitation Department so that the situation can be resolved.
