Visit to the islands provided additional insight on the effects of 10-10-10
Late June, representatives of the evaluation committee visited the islands. During this visit they have spoken with many people in a short time. For example, with residents and staff of a retirement home, young people, customs employees and church representatives. Interviews have also been held with people on the street, in shops and various care centers. Frans Weekers: “We are grateful that so many people have taken the time to tell us their story, this helps us to gain a better insight of what is happening among the population of Bonaire, Statia and Saba.”
Research more than half way through
The committee is progressing well with their investigation. An important part of the information was gathered by the researchers who visited the islands in April. They have spoken with many people that work in the education, health care, police, business and government sector. A telephone survey has been conducted among 750 people and there have been seven group discussions. In addition, anyone who was interested could go to one of the visiting hours. “It is important that there is information collected in various ways. We want to know how people experience the changes. We also want to try to capture as objectively as possible what has changed exactly and what the consequences are,” said committee chairman Liesbeth Spies.
Last opportunity to share your experience with the committee
The committee will now proceed to analyze all the information collected. Anyone who wants to share their personal experience with the commission may do so until August 1st via the website: www.evaluationcaribbeannetherlands.nl/your-experience. In August and September, the committee writes its final report. This report will be presented mid-October to the commissioning parties.
